Most questions we hear are about the Class 7 licence Alberta learners need, what driving lessons in Edmonton cost, and how pickup works. This driving school FAQ puts the answers in one place, using the same facts we give at the office. Prices, hours and policies here match what you will see on the booking page and the terms page.
City Driving School Ltd has taught in Edmonton since 2009. More than 6,000 students have passed with us. We are an Alberta Transportation approved driving school, and our Google reviews are pulled live onto the reviews page.

Prices and payment
How much is driving school in Edmonton?
Prices depend on your zone, and every price is plus 5% GST. Zone A is Edmonton South and Beaumont, Zone B is Edmonton Downtown and Edmonton North, and Zone C is Sherwood Park. This short driving lessons Edmonton price list covers the most asked courses, and the full list is on the courses page.
Where is the driving school price list, and how can I pay?
Every course and price is on the courses page. You pay online by PayPal or choose to pay at the office when you book on the booking page. If you choose the office, your booking shows the payment as pending.
Courses
How many hours is driving school?
The Full Course is 15 hours of in-class theory plus 10 hours in the car. The Extended Full Course has 15 hours of theory plus 15 hours in the car. The Value For Money course has 15 hours of theory plus 18 hours in the car. Prices for all three are on the Full Course page.
Can you take driving school online?
The theory part, yes. Full Course Online is $595, $645 or $700 by zone. Extended Online is $870, $920 or $970, and Value For Money Online is $1,075, $1,125 or $1,175. In-car lessons are always in person, in the school's car.
Will a defensive driving course lower my insurance?
It may. Our Defensive Driving Course is $150, in class and Alberta approved, and it can remove up to 3 demerits from an Alberta record. Insurers may give a discount, so check with yours. Defensive Driving On Demand is the same course for $200, available seven days a week.
How do I get my driving school certificate?
You earn the insurance certificate with a 7.5 grade on road training and 80% on the class test. Rewriting the class test is $25, and a duplicate certificate is $50. Full details are on the terms page.
Class 7 and Class 5
How do I get the Class 7 licence Alberta learners need?
Class 7 is the learner licence. Once you hold it, our Full Course is built for Class 7 learners, with theory in class or online plus in-car lessons. If you still need to write the Class 7 knowledge test, see the next question.
How do I study for my learners?
Our in-class Class 7 Learner Preparation is $150 and prepares you for the Class 7 knowledge test. See the knowledge test prep page for details and booking.
How do I get my Class 5 driver's licence?
Class 5 is the full licence, the Class 5 licence Alberta drivers hold. Class 5 drivers can take our 6 Hour on Road Training for $360 in Zones A and B or $395 in Zone C. On test day, Car Use for Road Test is $90 for our car at the registry.
Pickup and areas
Do driving schools provide cars?
We do. Every in-car lesson is in the school's car, and pickup and drop-off are free for in-car lessons inside our service areas. Car Use with Training is $150 for one hour in our car with an instructor.
Where can new drivers take lessons in Edmonton?

Can I ask for a female driving instructor?
Yes. Ask for a female instructor in your booking, or tell us when you call. All our instructors, men and women, are certified by Alberta Transportation. More on the instructors page.
Booking and cancellation
How do I start driving lessons?
Book on the booking page in five steps: your details, your area, your course, payment, and the terms. You will need your Class 7 licence number for step one, and a confirmation email arrives when you finish. You can also call (780) 965-1151.
How does driving school work once I have booked?
Bring your Class 7 licence to every lesson, because missing it means those hours are lost. Give 24 hours notice to cancel a lesson or a $100 charge applies, and there is no refund once training starts. An instructor may cancel at the last moment for a mechanical problem.
